PARENT
INVOLVEMENT & FAMILY LEARNING: A Recipe for School Success
- Remember:
students with involved parents are more likely to earn better grades,
attend school regularly, have better social skills and go on to higher
education.
- Monitor
children's out-of-school activities, including television and computer
time. Set and maintain consistent family routines for bedtime, chores
and homework.
- Make
"learning" a topic of conversation in the community, wherever
neighbors and friends gather.
- When
you attend parent-school or family learning activities, pick up extra
hand outs to share with a parent that could not attend.
- Always
ask your child about his or her school day.
- Prepare
notes and questions to ask at the parent-teacher conference.
- Help
your child organize notebooks and folders. Keep old tests and quizzes
in a specific folder for future studying and to monitor progress.
- Have high expectations. Watch for
signs of failure and frustration. Reward progress!
